The open-access Elsevier journal Emerging Trends in Drugs, Addictions, and Health has launched a Special Issue titled Current Advances in Clean Sport Education in University Settings. This Special Issue is a result of the European Commission’s Erasmus+ Sport project European Partnership for Clean Sport in Tertiary Education (EPCS-TE) and seeks to explore how universities can play a pivotal role in fostering clean sport values and anti-doping education in student communities and beyond.
Why This Special Issue Matters
The special issue is aligned with the Council of Europe’s Monitoring Group to the Anti-Doping Convention Recommendation Anti-Doping Education Guidelines for Tertiary Education Institutions, which emphasises the responsibility of universities and other tertiary education institutions to equip future professionals, such as educators, health practitioners, sport scientists, and policymakers, with the knowledge and ethical foundations needed to safeguard sport integrity and prevent doping in sport.
Key Focus Areas & Submission Details
The Special Issue invites submissions that examine how clean sport education is currently delivered in universities, focusing on the following indicative areas:
- Identify, map and critically analyse existing models, trends and challenges in delivering clean sport education within higher education settings.
- Explore and assess collaborative synergies, partnerships, and knowledge-exchange processes between national anti-doping organisations (NADOs) and universities, to promote clean sport values and principles.
It welcomes empirical research, systematic reviews, conceptual analyses and case studies that shed new light on educational models, governance approaches, co-designed interventions, and interdisciplinary practices. Through this scholarly engagement, the Special Issue is expected to improve understanding about the role of tertiary education institutions as social multipliers capable of shaping long-term attitudes, values, and behaviours related to clean sport. The submission deadline is 24 April 2026 and accepted articles will be published open access free of charge.
